What Goes Into the Price?
International Airfare
Airfare varies greatly by departure city, cabin and season. Most travelers connect through a major hub in the Middle East, Europe or Asia before arriving at Velana International Airport in Malé.
Broad planning estimate: approximately $1,800–$4,000 round trip for two in economy, depending on departure city and dates. Premium cabins can cost several times more.
Resort Transfers
Transfers are a major Maldives-specific cost, because most resorts sit on their own islands. Resorts closer to Malé are usually reached by speedboat, which tends to be less expensive, while more remote atolls require a seaplane or a domestic flight plus a boat.
Speedboat transfers are often the most affordable option, while seaplane or domestic-flight transfers can add substantially to the total for two. Always check the resort's transfer method and total transfer cost before booking.
Hotels & Resorts
Pricing varies widely between beach villas, overwater villas and luxury private-island resorts. Villa category and resort location often matter as much as the resort name.
- Entry/value resort stays: approximately $300–$600 per night
- Upscale resorts: approximately $600–$1,200 per night
- Luxury overwater villas: approximately $1,200–$3,000+ per night
- Ultra-luxury villas and residences can be significantly higher
Food
Meal-plan structure matters a lot in the Maldives, because many travelers eat primarily at their resort. Choosing breakfast only, half-board, full-board or all-inclusive can change the final budget considerably.
Allow approximately $150–$500 per day for two, depending on dining style and which meals are included.
Activities
Snorkeling excursions, diving, whale-shark trips, manta-ray trips, spa treatments, private cruises and water sports can add significantly to the total.
A couple might spend approximately $500–$2,000+ over the week, depending on how many excursions and treatments you plan.
Taxes, Service Charges and Resort Fees
Taxes, service charges and resort-specific fees can materially affect the final trip cost, so check exactly what is included in the quoted rate before booking.
Sample Value Trip
Base: 7 days / 6 nights. Choose a lower-cost resort or a guesthouse-style stay on a local island, with simpler dining, lower-cost transfers and fewer paid excursions.
Estimated total for two — 7 days / 6 nights: $5,000–$8,000
Sample Dream Trip
Base: 7 days / 6 nights. Stay at an upscale private-island resort, splitting nights between a beach villa and an overwater villa if useful, with several excursions such as a manta-ray or sandbank trip and a stronger dining plan such as half-board.
Estimated total for two — 7 days / 6 nights: $9,000–$15,000
Sample Ultra-Luxury Trip
Base: 7 days / 6 nights. Choose a premium overwater villa or residence, with private or premium seaplane transfers, spa treatments, private excursions and flexible dining throughout the stay.
Estimated total for two — 7 days / 6 nights: $22,000–$40,000+
